- Fundación Cepsa begins visits to the winners of the last edition of these Awards in the Canary Islands
Fundación Cepsa and the Tenerife Food Bank Association (BancoTeide) have joined forces in the fight against child poverty on the island of Tenerife, donating 15,720 kg of food to families with children at risk of social exclusion.
The head of Fundación Cepsa in the Islands, Belén Machado, and Laura Hernández, a company doctor and promoter of corporate volunteering at Cepsa, visited the headquarters of the solidarity organization, where they were received by its president, Hernán Cerón, accompanied by various members of his team, including several volunteers. This was the first visit to the winners of the latest edition of the Social Value Awards in the Canary Islands, in which BancoTeide was recognized for its Fight Against Child Poverty project.
During the visit, Hernán Cerón assured that, "thanks to the collaboration of Fundación Cepsa, the distribution of food has increased since January, and now stands at 1,036,033 kilos, delivered to 8,648 families in distress and facing social exclusion, many of them with children in their care. This was done through redistribution to all the town and city halls and the more than a hundred charitable organizations that are partnering with us in this drive.”
Cerón also took the opportunity to thank Cepsa's professionals for their voluntary participation in other initiatives of the Association he presides over, such as the big food drive held every November, where "workers from the energy company help each year with the logistics of donations, while at the same time helping to spread awareness among supermarket users to provide food."
For her part, the head of Fundación Cepsa in the Canary Islands, Belén Machado, highlighted the "important work carried out by the Food Bank in offering children a diet that is as complete as possible," and recalled that "it is necessary to make society aware of the problems caused by hunger or food wastage, so that we can all help, if not to eradicate it once and for all, at least to minimize it.”
Tenerife Food Bank Association (BancoTeide)
BancoTeide has the help of 117 charities and municipalities that cover the entire province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, throughout which it redistributes non-perishable and perishable food to socially marginalized people, as a way of fighting hunger and poverty in Tenerife.
The food is distributed taking into account the number of beneficiaries assisted by each association. Much of the food comes from surpluses that BancoTeide receives from large supermarkets and food companies.
Fundación Cepsa Social Value Awards
The Social Value Awards were created more than a decade ago with the aim of supporting underprivileged individuals, groups and sectors, fostering values of solidarity and promoting the educational and cultural development of those societies in which Cepsa conducts operations, as well as involving the Company's own professionals.
All the projects submitted go hand in hand with a Cepsa employee, who becomes a `solidarity sponsor´ for it. The initiative is one of the most outstanding examples of the many social actions carried out by Fundación Cepsa in the Canary Islands.
The 2018 Social Value Awards are now under way, with entries being accepted until October 4. All the information about our Awards and how to make submissions is available at the Fundación Cepsa website: www.fundacioncepsa.com.
