- Asociación Virgen del Carmen de Trigueros was one of the associations to win Fundación Cepsa’s Social Value Awards in 2016
- The prize money received has enabled it to install an interphone system and provide enhanced support
Fundación Cepsa paid a visit to the San Antonio Abad elderly care home in Trigueros, which is owned by Asociación Virgen del Carmen from the same town, to find out first-hand about this association’s work in the social sphere and progress with the project that received one of the Social Value Awards in the 2016 edition.
This care home provides permanent or temporary shared accommodation and integrated support, replacing the family home for elderly people who are reliant on others, based on the extent of and reasons for their dependence and the individualized care they need.
The interphone system that was bought with the prize money gives visual and acoustic signals for calls made from around the center and offers two-way communication between interphones. Wireless telephony also enables any alarms/calls to be diverted to a cell phone if staff cannot take them at the nurses’ station.
Thanks to Fundación Cepsa’s donation through the 2016 Social Value Awards, rolling out this system has enabled the association to comply with the statutory requirements governing how this type of center must be run on the one hand, and to provide better care to residents on the other. It has also facilitated and enhanced coordination and communication between staff, which has had a positive impact on their jobs.
The introduction of new technologies at this elderly care home will ensure residents and their relatives are attended to more quickly and effectively. This will boost the satisfaction of residents, who will be dealt with as quickly as possible because the various specialists will remain in permanent contact and coordination wherever they are in the home.
“We are indebted to Fundación Cepsa for the support received in the last edition of the Social Value Awards, especially when we see that ‘our old folk’ are receiving a greater level of care, day and night, since the new interphone system was installed,” says Adolfo Buzón, the care home’s manager.
The Social Value Awards were first launched in Huelva in 2005. They were well received, resulting in the other Cepsa centers joining the initiative in subsequent years, which was the case with Tenerife, the Autonomous Community of Madrid, Campo de Gibraltar, Portugal, Colombia and Brazil.
These awards are one of the stand-out initiatives of Fundación Cepsa.
The aim of these awards is to help the most disadvantaged people, groups and sectors of society, nurture charitable values and promote educational and cultural development with the help of Cepsa staff, given that all of the programs, projects or activities entering the competition must have been nominated by a Cepsa employee, who thus becomes a “charity sponsor” for the project. The period for submitting entries to the 2017 competition will open in September.
