A total of five students from the Polytechnic School of Algeciras (EPSA) are taking part through to September in this new edition of the educational business-university partnership program that focuses heavily on engineering. The fifth edition of this ground-breaking project in Spain will get under way in the final quarter of this year.
The course started last November and is a product of the Company’s partnership with the University of Cádiz through the Fundación Cepsa Chair. It focuses on the specialist subject of oil and petrochemical refining and is delivered at the Company’s facilities. Lecturers include prominent professionals with a wealth of experience in the various subjects and fields the course addresses.
Participants are selected on the basis of their academic record and according to the selection criteria set by the University and the Company. These young students were sitting alongside Cepsa’s own employees, who also benefited from this university training. A total of 20 employees have received training this year. Meanwhile, students from the Polytechnic School of Algeciras, an academic institution with which Cepsa has been collaborating since 1973, will be able to complete their degree or Master's qualification at the Company.
The Head of the Gibraltar-San Roque refinery, Miguel Pérez de la Blanca, attended the meeting with students to find out how their experience had gone at the Company’s facilities and to gauge their impression of the educational partnership in the field of engineering. Also present was Gabriel González, the head of the Polytechnic School of Algeciras, who emphasized the positive benefits of this experience to the Engineering students. For his part, Mr Pérez de la Blanca highlighted the fact that the training is similarly beneficial to the participating Cepsa employees.
Fundación Cepsa Academic Chairs in Andalusia
Fundación Cepsa continues to work alongside academia. The chairs at the universities of Huelva, Seville and Cádiz are growing thanks to the contributions and dedication of professionals from all these organizations to improve training, innovation and research.
The Cepsa Chairs in Andalusia have allowed thousands of students to gain first-hand experience of a real working environment, while bringing university professors closer to the reality of industry in Andalusia. Exchanges between technicians and professors have allowed them to hone their skills and apply their newly gained expertise in their daily work. For all these reasons, today Cepsa is a great ally of universities in Andalusia.
