- In 2020, as a result of the health crisis, Fundación Cepsa adapted its activity to help mitigate the effects of the pandemic
After four years of operation, Fundación Cepsa will continue promoting social initiatives that contribute to improve the quality of life of the most vulnerable groups, as well as projects in environmental and scientific-educational fields, in order to contribute to the challenges posed by the energy transition.
“We want to provide solutions through with our activity to the extraordinary period the energy sector is going. We are not starting from scratch. We have a history, a connection, and knowledge of the social economy, and a close and productive relationship with the research world that gives us valuable experience that we now want to promote even more. This will lead us to carry out projects that contribute to progress and promote employment in the energy sector,” said Cristina Ortiz, new Fundación Cepsa Director.
In this sense, in scientific-educational matters, Fundación Cepsa will continue to collaborate with research projects through the chairs it holds with different Spanish universities, as well as promote initiatives to increase employability in the energy sector. In the environmental field, Fundación Cepsa will continue to promote and coordinate projects to protect biodiversity and care for the environment, such as research to eradicate an invasive algae species that is endangering the Andalusian coastline. It will also continue to carry out remediation projects for the Laguna Primera de Palos in Huelva and launch initiatives to recycle waste, among others.
Adapting to the needs of the moment
2020 has been an extraordinary year for Fundación Cepsa’s operations, as it has focused its efforts since the beginning of the health crisis on helping to alleviate the consequences of the pandemic caused by the COVID-19, especially among the most disadvantaged groups.
Together with Cepsa professionals, the organization has donated 480,000 kilos of basic foodstuffs to the Spanish Federation of Food Banks, among other initiatives. In addition, in collaboration with the Persán Foundation, it delivered 180,000 kilos of home care and laundry detergents to 18,000 vulnerable families in Seville, Huelva, and Campo de Gibraltar. Fundación Cepsa also donated 75,000 euros to the Red Cross and other institutions and administrations to collaborate in health care travel in Spain and Portugal, as well as providing medical material in Spain, Portugal, Colombia, and Algeria.
Fundación Cepsa is a general interest, nonprofit entity whose aim is to carry out initiatives that serve the needs and priorities of the local communities where its founder, Compañía Española de Petróleos S.A. (Cepsa), conducts its activities. The areas of action for Fundación Cepsa are social, environmental and scientific-educational.
