The Nuevo Hogar Betania day center, located in the neighborhood of La Caridad, is the first day resource in Algeciras designed to take in people in situations of social exclusion throughout the day. It is open from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm and offers a multitude of services to meet users’ basic needs and is committed to social justice. The center offers breakfast, showers, clothing, handicraft and sports workshops, medical and legal assistance, training and referrals to other resources, among others.
The head of Fundación Cepsa in Campo de Gibraltar, Estrella Blanco, visited the Nuevo Hogar Betania day center in Algeciras alongside its director Begoña Arana, who explained that this resource offers a safe place for these people, where their voices are heard. She also described how they work to improve the difficult situation that these citizens are experiencing and help them gradually start to lead a normal life.
The local head of Fundación Cepsa stated that "Nuevo Hogar Betania has created a necessary and key resource in Algeciras to serve a group that needed a place to take shelter during the day and meet the basic needs that we often take for granted but are not covered in their case, such as a daily shower. Fundación Cepsa and the Social Value Awards will continue to support crucial initiatives like this one."
The Social Value Awards
These awards are one of the stand-out initiatives of Fundación Cepsa. The aim of the awards is to provide support to individuals, associations, and underprivileged sectors of society so as to foster a spirit of solidarity and promote educational and cultural development through the involvement of Cepsa staff, who sponsor the programs that the associations of the Campo de Gibraltar region submit as candidates to receive the Social Value Awards. The period for submitting entries to the 2021 competition will open in September.
