- This is the first doctoral thesis between the University of Cadiz (UCA) and the Fundación Cepsa through the Chair at the Polytechnic School of Algeciras
- Doctoral theses are part of the commitment of the University of the UCA and the Fundación Cepsa to research and innovation applied to the industrial sector
The Fundación Cepsa and the UCA through the Fundación Cepsa Chair, located in the Higher Polytechnic School of Algeciras (EPSA) are already working on the development of the doctoral thesis on the industrial sector entitled Characterization of the chemical composition and microbiology of the biological reactors at the Gibraltar-Cepsa Refinery. Study of optimization strategies, an academic research project that will be developed during the next three years with the possibility of extending for another year.
The doctoral student at the head of this project is Claudia Galán, guided by Dr. Jose Manuel Gómez Montes de Oca and Dr. Manuel Jesús Castañeda Balbuena, from the UCA and Cepsa respectively, and the support of Antonio Berlanga Gómez, head of the Energy area of the Gibraltar-San Roque refinery.
With the implementation of industrial theses, Cepsa and the UCA have taken a step forward in their constant collaboration. In addition to this doctoral thesis on the industrial sector, there is a thesis entitled Development of analytical methodology to be used as a reference, as well as to be implemented in quick analysis and even on site, for the determination of volatile and aromatic components in oil products used in the industrial sector (electronic nose), commencing works in the next few days. Both aim to develop applications that are useful for the industrial sector and that are a competitive advantage for the company, always keeping innovation as a guide.
Francisco Trujillo, Director of the Fundación Cepsa Chair, has highlighted "the collaboration of the University of Cadiz with Cepsa through the Fundación Cepsa Chair, which in its trajectory gives prestige to both sides of the relationship and offers new possibilities to graduates and researchers of the University of Cadiz," adding that "with these two doctoral theses currently being developed, we manage to promote a priority activity for our collaboration such as technological transfer and innovation, all within the framework of the Fundación Cepsa Chair, which shows a very positive image of collaboration to continue strengthening these activities." On the other hand, doctoral student Claudia Galán said that "participating in this project is a great opportunity to contribute to a more optimal functioning of the world.
Finally, the person in charge of the Fundación Cepsa in the Campo de Gibraltar area, Estrella Blanco, has highlighted "the firm commitment of the Fundación Cepsa Chair to carry out within the university, a type of research that can have practical applications in the future and that from minute one responds to the needs of the industrial sector. Taking advantage of the synergies between the University of Cadiz and Cepsa is a priority for the Fundación Cepsa Chair."
Fundación Cepsa Chairs
Fundación Cepsa Chairs at the Universities of Cadiz, Huelva, Seville, La Laguna, and Polytechnic in Madrid, are continually strengthened thanks to the contributions and involvement of the Company's professionals and the academic institutions committed to improving research, training, knowledge flow and innovation.
Fundación Cepsa Chairs have allowed thousands of students to approach the labor world and bring university professors closer to the reality of the energy and chemical sectors. The exchange of knowledge and experience between Cepsa professionals, university teachers, and students has meant, for two decades, the professional enrichment of all of them. For all these reasons, today Cepsa is a great ally of said universities.
