- The organization based in Algeciras has assisted nearly a hundred migrant women and women sex workers thanks to the Social Value Award from Fundación Cepsa.
- Socio-educational workshops, support, referral to resources, and other health-related actions are part of the program ‘Mujeres de Arena’
Fundación Cepsa is getting a first-hand look at how the winning projects from the last year’s Social Value Awards are coming together. This visit focused on the winning project from the 2019 edition: Mujeres de Arena (Women of Sand), by Fundación Amaranta, is a program designed to assist migrant women and/or women sex workers.
So far this year, program collaborators have visited women sex workers in apartments and on the streets, held socio-educational workshops, and provided health care and other support. Furthermore, before the end of the year, the project will launch a health information campaign and will distribute hygiene materials to the women who receive support from the program.
Representatives from Fundación Amaranta explained that, throughout the health crisis, they held a campaign with informative capsules containing messages of support and guidance and assisted women to obtain necessary resources, such as the minimum subsistence income. Over the past months, the organization has had to provide more individualized attention than normal, as the number of migrant women and women sex workers who want to advance their professional training in order to obtain a stable job has increased.
Susana Pérez, Social Intervention technician of the Fundación Amaranta in Algeciras, stated that receiving the Social Value Award from Fundación Cepsa “was an honor.” The award not only affirms the work of Fundación Amaranta, but also sheds light on the rights, reality and claims of women sex workers.
The Social Value Awards
These Awards are one of the stand-out initiatives of Fundación Cepsa. The aim of the Awards is to provide support to individuals, associations, and underprivileged sectors of society so as to foster a spirit of solidarity and promote educational and cultural development through the involvement of Cepsa staff, who sponsor the programs that the associations of the Campo de Gibraltar region submit as candidates to receive the Social Value Awards. The period for submitting entries to the 2020 competition will open in September.
