- The `Sumérgete en Santa Cruz' project has already made it possible to create 23 large-format artistic creations
- Paula Calavera, Federica Furbelli and Iker Muro, makers of the creation
Santa Cruz de Tenerife counts from today with a new mural of the initiative `Sumérgete en Sana Cruz', of Fundación Cepsa, in coordination with the City Council of the capital, which adds with this one a total of 23 in different spaces of the municipality, creating an itinerary of art outdoors for the enjoyment of all the citizenship, visitors and tourists.
"The city will thus have a new display of urban art, thanks to the initiative of Fundación Cepsa, which enriches our heritage by creating an authentic open-air exhibition with its project”, said Culture councilwoman, Gladis de León, during the presentation of the new mural.
"We must thank, in the same way," added De León, "the teachers and students of Los Verodes school for their active involvement in the realization of this work, which benefits the entire neighborhood" and said that "from the Autonomous Body of Culture we are very happy to continue with this project of Fundación Cepsa, which this time has allowed a total of 140 students from this school in Santa Cruz to participate and have managed to change the image of this wall".
For Belén Machado, head of Fundación Cepsa in the Canary Islands, "this activity goes beyond the promotion of art and culture in general, as it is also an initiative to raise awareness of different social issues and, on occasions, such as the mural we are presenting today, of citizen participation".
At the same time, she adds that "we must remember that ‘Sumérgete en Santa Cruz’ emerged in 2012 as a pioneering initiative, to create an outdoor urban art route through murals of enormous format, which already has a total of 23 interventions, in which 21 local artists or based in the Canary Islands have participated, and will be followed by another creation that we will soon announce that will be dedicated, this time, to diversity."
Belén Machado concludes by emphasizing that with this mural "we also seek to promote the integration of the Los Verodes school in the neighborhood, giving it visibility and highlighting its great contribution to the environment, thanks to the great involvement of the management and staff of this school".
For his part, Carlos Tarife, councilman of the Salud-La Salle district, praised "this initiative which highlights, on this occasion, the collective participation of students and teachers of this school in Los Verodes" and added that "in addition to beautifying the exterior facade of the school, it supports the spirit of collaboration and integration of all participants, demonstrating that working together leads to the best results and unites those who perform it".
The two artists who have joined this last work at Los Verodes Elementary School, Paula Calavera and Federica Furbelli, together with Iker Muro, have thanked Fundación Cepsa for the opportunity to continue developing their artistic careers through works like this in which, "we took as a starting point drawings provided by all the students, so we have been able to create a fun and colorful work that reflects the way the children express themselves, who have also participated by painting in groups," they say.
