- The Wake up with NH! project was recognized in the 2020 Social Value Awards.
- With their summer activities, the two organizations are focusing on the integration of children and young adults from the Pérez Cubillas neighborhood in Huelva.
The commitment to promoting full social inclusion regardless of factors such as origin, functional diversity or gender, has been the priority of the collaboration carried out this summer between Fundación Cepsa and the “Un Nuevo Horizonte para mi Barrio” (“A New Horizon for my Neighborhood”) Association, a winner in the last edition of the foundation's Social Value Awards.
With the winning project “Wake up with NH!", the Marist organization intends to continue being a reference in the Pérez Cubillas neighborhood of Huelva, in need of social transformation, by offering educational, social, cultural, sports, training and recreational activities to its population, mainly children and young adults, and by encouraging a healthy lifestyle among these residents in terms of both physical and mental habits.
One of its activities, the "Julioteca" program, offers the children of the neighborhood activities throughout the month of July, the key to carrying out a comprehensive follow-up with these minors, with whom it continues to work throughout the year with scholastic reinforcement (directed study) and in contexts to which they are not accustomed (camping, support for personal and life goals, cultural outings, among others).
On the other hand, after a challenging year, NH decided to return to its traditional formula of summer camp, albeit with a different approach due to the circumstances of the pandemic. Amid masks, hand sanitizer, constant disinfection of materials and facilities, antigen tests for volunteers and other measures, the association launched its urban camp for children and young adults from the aforementioned neighborhood of Huelva and some youth residential centers in the province.
Under the slogan “Always live with GRATITUDE,” from August 4 to 12, more than 90 participants, divided into two groups as a protective measure, enjoyed the outdoors and were trained on values in the facilities of the Marista Colón School.
The head of Fundación Cepsa in Huelva, Teresa Millán, during her visit to the centers where the entity has been working in recent weeks, stressed that “this recognition emphasizes NH’s opening to other vulnerable neighborhoods of the capital, as well as to other groups of disadvantaged children and young adults, such as residents of juvenile centers.” On the other hand, “its work on values such as respect, tolerance, solidarity and empathy complements the usual activities, such as exercise, fun, play, learning and coexistence,” she said.
For his part, the president of the organization, Jose Luis González, commented that “in these challenging times for everyone, and especially the most vulnerable population of our province, the Un Nuevo Horizonte para mi Barrio Association is deeply grateful to entities like Fundación Cepsa that collaborate with us to make our projects a reality for children and young adults in the Pérez Cubillas neighborhood of Huelva and others in the area.”
