For the third year running, Fundación Cepsa and the Federación Insular de Lucha Canaria de Tenerife (the Canarian Wrestling Foundation of Tenerife) will once renew their collaboration agreement to host the third edition of the Canarian wrestling tournament for U8 and U10 teams in Tenerife. The tournament starts at 10:00 am local time on Sunday, December 15, at the Terrero Insular Pancho Suárez wrestling center in Los Campitos, Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The two institutions are teaming up again after the success of the two previous tournaments, with over 200 young people representing clubs and schools throughout Tenerife.
The aim for the third Fundación Cepsa tournament is to have every U8 and U10 team (children between the ages of 6 and 10) on the island take part. The main aim is to encourage participation in wrestling from a young age and to motivate the youngest of them to continue taking part in our sport.
José Manuel Fernández-Sabugo, Cepsa's Canary Islands Director and Fundación Cepsa Representative, believe that this collaboration "proves that Cepsa is committed to supporting Canarian Wrestling, a sport that the company has links to historically. It is also about strengthening our ties to the Canarian Wrestling Foundation of Tenerife to support our young people, who are the future of this noble and beautiful sport."
He added that "Fundación Cepsa is proud to support children and young people involved in sport — it is part of our sustainable objectives as a company. What's more, it comes with the added value of being a sport that is unique to this part of the world, representing Canarian culture and history.
The President of the Canarian Wrestling Foundation of Tenerife, Jeremiah Hernández, paid tribute to Fundación Cepsa's commitment to the sport and stated that "it's a source of pride that a company of the prestige and importance of Cepsa has once again agreed to collaborate with the Federation of Tenerife to put on this tournament. It beat all the records for participation last year and was just a wonderful event."
He added that "this type of tournament lays the foundation for our future wrestlers because it adds more competitive wrestling to the season, which motivates the children, as well as their parents, to be involved in Canarian wrestling." He concluded by saying: "Thanks to Fundación Cepsa's commitment, we can once again, for the third year running, have a genuine celebration of grassroots wrestling in Tenerife."
