The Fundación Cepsa Chair of Innovation and Efficiency of the University of La Laguna has unveiled a web pageto bring visibility to its activity and to open up their daily activities to society. Through the site www.ull.es/catedras/catedra-fundacion-cepsaknowledge is disseminated on issues related to the chair, advising companies and public administrations. Specialized training is also offered.
The mission of this chair is collaboration between the Fundación Cepsa and the University of La Laguna to implement programs that promote education, employability, and entrepreneurship, in addition to driving research and innovation. Directed by Andrea Brito Alayón, Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of La Laguna, it promotes management of both undergraduate and master's capstone projects, granting scholarships and grants, and holding seminars and conferences, while also collaborating with other similar chairs at other Spanish or foreign universities.
The chair comprises a mixed commission of, on one side, the vice-rector of Culture and Social Participation, Juan Albino Méndez; the vice-rector of Research and Transfer, Ernesto Pereda; and the director of the secretariat on whom the chairs rely, Manuel González de la Rosa; and, on the other side, the supervisor of the Cepsa Research Center, Joana Frontela; the Digital Program Manager of Cepsa Refining, José Juan Macías; the supervisor of the Corporate Relations Sites and Assets of Cepsa, Jesús Velasco; and the supervisor of the Fundación Cepsa in the Canary Islands, Belén Machado.
Of note among the projects in which it is participating is TeideSat, an initiative created by the students of the University of La Laguna whose eagerness to learn more about satellites and space has led them to form a team to design and put a nanosatellite into orbit based on the CubeSat standard.
In addition, it also has the LORA project, to bring loT technology (Internet of Things) to a large number of university and high school students in order to implement innovative applications and solutions. There is also a research project focused on co-processing oils and greases in the diesel hydrotreatment process.
Additionally, in order to contribute to research and dissemination of academic work, the chair has convened the first edition of the Awards for the best undergraduate and master's capstone projects for the 2019-2020 academic year in order to recognize those particularly original and quality projects approved at the University of La Laguna that are focused on studying energy use of waste and the circular economy, transport logistics, energy efficiency in buildings, analyzing environmental solutions in energy operations, technologies that reduce consumption, and research on carbon and water footprints, among others.
Cepsa chairs, which are managed through its Foundation, at the Universities of La Laguna, Huelva, Cádiz, Seville and Madrid, are being continually strengthened thanks to contributions and involvement from professionals at the Company and academic institutions dedicated to enhancing research, innovation and education.
Cepsa is a great ally of these universities. Its chairs have already enabled thousands of students to access the world of employment while bringing university professors closer to the energy and chemical reality. Knowledge and experience exchanges between Cepsa professionals and university teachers and students represent an enrichment for everyone.
